How do I operate my Vault independent of Swan Bitcoin?

All Swan Vault users can access a straightforward recovery process that gives you full, independent control of your Bitcoin in your Vault.

What you will need:

  1. Your Swan Vault Recovery Kit: You should download and retain a copy from your Swan Vault dashboard.
  2. Your two Jade devices: You will need both Jade devices to sign your transactions.
  3. Specter Desktop: an open-source Bitcoin wallet.

How to Install Specter Desktop

Follow the step-by-step instructions or watch the video below 

  1. Click on the link to navigate to the Specter Desktop download page https://specter.solutions/downloads/.
  2. Select the installer appropriate for your Operating System
  3. On macOS
    1. Click the For OS X button to start the installer download
    2. Once the installer has been downloaded navigate to the downloads folder
    3. Double-click on the Specter Desktop installer
    4. The installer dialog window will pop up
    5. Drag the Specter Desktop icon into the Application folder
    6. Close the installer dialog window
    7. Navigate to the Applications folder, then double-click on Specter to run the application
  4. On Windows
    1. Click the For Windows button to start the installer download
    2. Once the installer has been downloaded navigate to the downloads folder
    3. Double-click on the Specter Desktop installer
    4. The installer dialog window will pop up
    5. Click the Run button. You may have to click More info then Run anyway
    6. Click on the Next button
    7. Click Finish 

Specter Desktop is now installed and ready to set up.

 

How to Set up Specter Desktop

  1. Open the Specter Desktop app

Once loaded you will need to connect to the Bitcoin network 

  1. Click Bitcoin Core Connection to connect to your own Bitcoin Core node and enter the relevant 
  2. Click Electrum Connection to connect to one of the pre-selected public Electrum servers
    1. In the dropdown, you can select either option
    2. Click Connect

  1. Click Let's go!

You’ve completed the setup! Specter Desktop is now connected to the Bitcoin network, and you can import an existing wallet or create a new one.

 

How to import your Swan Vault 

Follow  the step-by-step instructions or watch the video below:

  1. Click Add wallet
  2. Click "Import from wallet software"
  3. Open your Swan Vault Recovery Kit in the PDF reader of your choice for example, Acrobat Reader, Preview, or any web browser.
  4. Scroll until you see the Specter Wallet Data section
  5. Copy your Specter Wallet Data
  6. In Specter Desktop paste your Specter wallet data into the input field
  7. You can also Scan the QR code instead
  8. Click Continue
  9. Specter will show the Wallet name, Quorum, and all the keys associated with your Swan Vault. Click Import Wallet
  10. Since you already have the Swan Vault Recovery Kit you do not need to create a backup. Click Skip 

 

Your Swan Vault has now been successfully imported. You can select it under the Wallets menu to view your balance and past transactions, generate receive addresses, and send Bitcoin independently of Swan, using your two keys.
