There are many different types of Bitcoin wallets, each with its own security and usability tradeoffs. If you are just getting into Bitcoin, we recommend downloading a free mobile wallet to test out.
Note: Bitcoin wallets do not give you US Dollars. If you wish to sell your Bitcoin, you can do that from inside your Swan account.
- Swan will never ask you to send us your private keys, seed words, or urgently ask you to withdraw your Bitcoin. Please be aware of common scams.
As you learn more about Bitcoin, you'll likely want to move your Bitcoin into more secure setups. This ranges from purpose-built computers that generate private keys (hardware wallets), or multi-sig setups like Swan Vault.
Here are some popular options to consider...
Mobile Bitcoin Wallets
Mobile wallets will generate a new private key and are easily accessible for sending/receiving Bitcoin. These should be thought of as spending wallets, not for keeping life savings.
- Muun: Seamlessly integrates Bitcoin and Lightning payments.
- Blue Wallet: One of the longer tenured mobile Bitcoin wallets.
Hardware Wallets
For enhanced security, use a signing device, commonly referred to as a hardware wallet. These devices will work in tandem with a desktop or mobile wallet application and need to be physically accessed to sign Bitcoin transactions.
- Blockstream Jade: Bitcoin-only and works as a single-sig signer, or two of them with Swan Vault.
- Coldcard by Coinkite: Advanced, Bitcoin-only, air gap cold storage signing device.
- Trezor Safe: An easy-to-use hardware signing device.
Desktop Bitcoin Wallets
- Specter: For technical users who want to hold all of their own keys.
- Sparrow Wallet: Another great option for technically proficient Bitcoiners.
Multisig Bitcoin Wallets
For large holdings with the highest security/redundancy.
- Swan Vault: Seamlessly combines easy-to-use software with hardware that delivers the strongest available security.
